F.A.R.M. Cafe opened Tuesday, May 1, in the former location of Boone Drug's popular fountain in downtown Boone. The restaurant works on a pay-what-you-can model, befitting of its acronym, which stands for "Feed All Regardless of Means." The cafe welcomed its first customers at 11 a.m., including a number of long-time Boone Drug employees.

The Boone Area Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual Spelling Bee for Grown-Ups Tuesday, March 20. Thirty-two teams from area businesses and organizations -- many in costume -- competed until only one remained, the Cove Creek School Creeksters, the members of which correctly spelled "kookabura." Proceeds from the event benefit the Watauga Education Foundation, as well as the chamber.
